BLACK EAGLE BOWMEN - 2015 / 2016 WINTER NEWS

MEMBERSHIP
Membership has held steady in the low 200's for 2015. We continue to encourage each member to bring non-members to experience BEB's facilities and invite them to join the club. Each member is permitted to bring a guest to shoot the outdoor course one time. We are convinced that our facilities are the best in the region, and we hope that guests would realize the value of a membership in Black Eagle Bowmen.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Elections were held at the General Membership meeting in September and the Board remains unchanged:

President: Mark Deitrich
Vice President: Dave Murray
Secretary: Dave Rothrock
Treasurer: Steve Shaffer
Directors: Jack Thorpe, Don Confer, Eric Wagner, Kevin Novosel and Bob Fenton

Board meetings are held at the club at 7 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each month January through September, and the Wednesday following the end of deer season in December. The April and September meetings open to the general membership, and all members have a vote.

MEMBERSHIP CARDS & "STICKERS"
The 2015 keycard will work until Jan. 31, 2016. You will receive your new keycard as soon as you enroll for 2016. The "sticker", sized to fit in a fishing license holder, is to be displayed while using the facilities.

PICNIC
Our annual picnic was held the Saturday before the last 3D shoot in September with about 30 folks in attendance. Attendees took advantage of the indoor and outdoor ranges. After a great lunch of pulled pork sandwiches and a variety of delicious covered dishes and desserts several youth representing 4H and YHEC gave an informative presentation about the archery activities of their respective organizations.

FACILITIES
Indoor shooting is available almost 24/7 to all members. All indoor shooters must sign in and deposit $1.00 per visit unless you purchased a season pass along with your membership. Shooters also pay $.50 for each new target used. Members may bring guests to shoot indoors at any time. Guests pay $4.00 per visit plus the new target fee if applicable.

Follow the black-arrows beginning behind the small storage building near the clubhouse.

BLACK EAGLE BOWMEN - 2014 / 2015 WINTER NEWS

Our 2014 membership drive was a success. Although we lose some members each year, we always manage to offset the loss with new members joining. The extra mailings for the membership drive enabled us to enroll a new record total of 225 memberships. The past couple of years have seen many improvements and additions. We think you approve and appreciate the efforts. Archers who travel say that we have one of the premiere facilities found anywhere. There were many good times had this year, one highlight being the revival of the members’ picnic.

MEMBERSHIP
We are 225 strong as of the end if the year, a record enrollment for us. Attendance at all functions has increased. There is more camaraderie, more volunteerism, more participation in keeping the place clean and neat. This makes it much easier to plan for, and implement, improvements. The more you put in, the more you get back. Those who volunteer to help with placing and/or gathering of the targets get to shoot free for each shoot worked.

PICNIC
We brought back the membership picnic in Sept. Although it was a very wet day, about 30 of us enjoyed a great indoor picnic highlighted by a presentation by Sean McVeigh on a variety of topics aimed at improving our success in archery hunting using a variety of the latest techniques and equipment.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Elections were held at the General Membership meeting at the clubhouse at 7:00 pm on September 3, 2014. This year’s Board consists of Mark Deitrich, Pres., Dave Murray, VP, Dave Rothrock, Sec., Steve Shaffer, Trs., and Jack Thorpe, Don Confer, Eric Wagner, Bob Fenton, Kevin Novosel, Eric Wagner. Board meetings are held at the club at 7:00 pm on the first Wednesday of the months of January thru September, and after deer season in December. The April and September meetings are general membership meetings, where every member has a vote.

IMPROVEMENTS
There have been MANY changes and improvements over the past couple of years, including: many new 3D targets, new water system, improved lighting, pavilion pavement, outdoor lighting, new money shoot course, newly remodeled bathrooms, better heating, new floor-mats, new bow-vise and bow-press. We are in the process of repainting, Those who have visited other clubs agree that we have one of the best, but it can be made even better with your help. We now have a 4WD Kubota which greatly improves our ability to mow the trails and the lot, haul the trailer, plow the snow and a lot of things that the old one could not do. We all look forward to better trails in the future. Over the last several years we have tried to make BEB a more enjoyable place for your family to visit. This winter we will replace/repair the indoor butts.

TREASURY
We diligently manage our treasury to maximize every dollar’s value to the membership. We maintain a balance large enough to offset any unforeseen expenses, yet continue to buy new targets and maintain/improve the facility. An entire year here still costs less than one day of golf.

CARDS & STICKERS
The ‘sticker’ is to be displayed while using the facility. It has been sized to fit in a fishing license holder so it can be moved to your hat, belt, quiver etc. They still have the adhesive backing if you prefer to attach it to your quiver etc. Your 2014 keycard will work until Jan 31, 2015. You will receive your new one as soon as you enroll for 2015.

INDOOR
Indoor shooting is available almost 24/7 to all members. All indoor shooters must sign in and deposit $1.00 per visit unless you purchased a season pass. Shooters pay $.50 for each new target used. Members may bring guests to shoot indoors at any time. Guests pay $4.00 per visit plus new target fee if applicable. Indoor league will again run January through March. If shooting league score deposit league fee and score card in the slot by the kitchen door. Post your own score after each round. Shoot/pay for six league scores and receive your choice of hat or T-shirt. Pick up you hat or shirt at any 3D shooter monthly meeting after the end of league.

NC3D ASSOCIATION
Black Eagle Bowmen, Clarence Archery, Spring Mills Fish and Game, and Blue Rock Sportsmen’s Club participated in the North Central 3D Association. The 2015 schedule cards will be available at the clubhouse and other locations in the area. These clubs have great targets and ample dates to keep you busy. Another new bow will be given away this year. Winner will be drawn from scorecards turned in at each shoot. The winner of the 2014 bow was Kyle Undercoffler whose ticket was drawn from a shoot at Clarence Archery.

WEBSITE
Our Website (www.blackeaglebowmen.com) is maintained on a volunteer basis. Any suggestions you may have to upgrade it will be appreciated. Please check it out. We try to update it to provide the latest information on the club, the board, schedules, facilities and the latest news.

BLACK EAGLE 3D LEAGUE
The BEB 3D league, for members only, runs August through September. The back half of the course is set up with 15 targets. You may shoot around twice or shoot 2 arrows at each target for a total of 30 shots to score. Payment and scorecards are to be placed in the slot by the kitchen door. Post your own scores. Shoot six scores and get your choice of hat or shirt. All rounds shot at these targets must be paid, even if you do not submit a scorecard.

MONEY SHOOT
The 2015 money shoot will be held in April. Our previous shoots were widely regarded as excellent, so we are hosting one more. Details will be posted on the website and on the bulletin board when planning is complete. We have awarded thousands of dollars in prize money over the past several years, and hope to repeat this spring. Shooters have come from four states to compete and we hear there well be even more for this one..

FIELD SHOOTING
Black Eagle Bowmen was founded by, and is still operated by, serious “Field” archers. Field rounds are the most demanding and rewarding forms of outdoor shooting. There is no better way to improve your archery skills. You have seen the field targets on the big round butts on the range with shots from 12 to 80 yards. Our field course is available for practice by any member at any time. Try it some time. Follow the black arrows beginning behind the small building. The very first target is the 80 yard walk-up. Feel free to adapt your first several rounds to your comfort level, such as skipping the 80 and 70 yard markers, or shooting only one or two arrows instead of the regulation four arrows at each target. The first half (Rt 64 side) usually has “Field” faces on it. These are black and white circles shot at distances in increments of five yards. The second half (Rt 80) side has “Hunter” faces which are white dots on black backgrounds and are shot from slightly different distances, such as 15 and 14 yards instead of simply 15. Nearing archery hunting seasons, we usually have the ‘Animal Round” targets up.

RIFLE LEAGUE
For our newer members, please be aware that the local rifle team uses our building and has shoots scheduled throughout the winter. Check the schedule that is posted above the bow-press, on the bulletin board, and on our website. Please adjust your shooting accordingly.

BROADHEADS
“Yellow Jacket”and “Green Monster” broadhead targets are set up at the practice range in September, for members only. This is the ONLY permitted use of broadheads at Black Eagle.

BEYOND BLACK EAGLE
We provide facilities to practice for nearly any form of competition in Pennsylvania and elsewhere. Consider shooting at tournaments run by NFAA, PSAA, NC3D, NEPAC, ASA, Senior Olympics, USArchery, YHEC and IBO. Each has a website with their schedules, shooting styles and rules posted. Please let us know of your accomplishments, they could be included in the next newsletter.

PROJECTS
Black Eagle Bowmen continues to support the 4H, YHEC, Cub Scouts and other youth who are interested in archery. We are committed to having another picnic, probably near the last 3D of this new season. More info will follow in your summer news. New projects, and continuation of current programs depend totally on volunteer help. Please consider volunteering especially if you are younger and stronger than your aging board. We need new blood if this great asset is going to maintain and grow over the years.

SUMMER NEWSLETTER
Your SUMMER News will be sent out after the JULY meeting. Make sure we have your current address. Enclosed is your membership application. The schedules for 2015 will be sent with your new card and sticker when application and payment is received.
